We had a great selection of applicants and Camille was hands down the clear cut choice to receive this year's award.
Camilles teacher Ms. Brayfield had these kind words to share about her.
Camille is an exceptional student who excels both academically and personally. Her commitment to excellence is evident in her impressive achievements. As captain of the girls’ basketball team, president of the American Sign Language club, and Black Student Union club officer, Camille demonstrates strong leadership skills. She actively participates in multiple honor societies and other school clubs, showcasing her dedication to community involvement and service. Camille’s work ethic is unparalleled. She consistently goes above and beyond, taking multiple dual enrollment and AP classes while maintaining a high GPA. Her attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to collaborate effectively with others set her apart. Camille’s tenacity and fearlessness in tackling challenges make her an asset to any academic or professional setting. Furthermore, Camille’s passion for nursing shines through. Her compassionate bedside manner and unwavering determination make her an ideal candidate for a nursing career. I have no doubt that she will excel at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she plans to major in nursing. In summary, Camille Mitchell is an outstanding individual who embodies the qualities sought after by the Amy Anderson Academic Scholarship. I wholeheartedly endorse her application and believe she would be a valuable recipient.
The "BURG" Family Reunion Club wished you all the best!
Congratulations to Chynna Carter on winning the Amy Anderson Scholarship Award for the Class of 2023 presented by the "BURG" Family Reunion Club. Chynna will receive a $1000 check to use towards college. She will be presented this award on Saturday, June 17 at the Juneteenth Celebration 2023 which will be held at Ida Lee Park in Leesburg, VA.
Chynna was an excellent choice although we had a great pool to choose from. She was able to maintain and earn a 3.7-grade point average.
Chynna's principal Mr. Adams had this to say about her.
It is my distinct honor and pleasure to write this recommendation for Chynna Carter in support of the application for the Amy Anderson Scholarship given by the Burg Family Reunion Club.I have known Chynna for six years, and in that time, I have come to know and respect her as a diligent student and hard worker, committed to a future career that serves people. Chynna exemplifies the leadership we want to see in the future of our nation. Although often demonstrating leadership in quieter ways, Chynna steps out to support the people and the things she believes in. She models responsibility and commitment in everything she does and consistently seeks new challenges. Whether it is choosing rigorous academic courses, signing up for two years of the Cosmetology program with Loudoun County Public Schools, or figuring out how that Cosmetology training can help her reach her goal of becoming a psychologist, Chynna does not shy away from a challenge. She forges ahead because she knows that she learns more from the struggle than from something that comes too easily. Chynna’s accomplishments and involvement underscores her commitment to using her talents and interests for serving others. She comes to school to learn, not just because she must be here. In fact, Chynna’s desire to continue her education arises from her motivation to continue the leadership she has demonstrated at Heritage High School. Chynna is an incredible young woman. She is intelligent, quiet, thoughtful, and ambitious. Chynna demonstrates excellence, leadership, character, and duty every day in all that she does-all hallmarks of a future (and current) leader. I am familiar with the Amy Anderson Scholarship (Heritage had a student receive the award last year), and Chynna demonstrates the ideals of the scholarship’s namesake. She sought out skills that can support her education aims, while remaining focused on her educational goals. Thank you for your time and consideration of Chynna Carter.
Sincerely, Jeffrey R. Adam Principal Heritage High School
The BFRC wishes you must success!
Congratulations to Jason Little on winning the first ever Amy Anderson Scholarship Award presented by the "BURG" Family Reunion Club. Jason will receive a $1000 check to use towards college. He will be presented this award on Saturday, June 18 at Juneteenth Celebration 2022.
Jason is a graduate of Heritge High School in Leesburg, Va. He was active in his school as a Track Athlete while earning a Grade Point Average of a 4.1. He will continue his Education at Virginia Tech in the fall majoring in Mathematics as a full time student.
When asked the following:
How did you determine your educational goals and how are you planning to use your degree?
"Over the past couple of years, I took a very strong interest in math, and have been interested in learning new concepts and ideas. I plan on using math in one of two ways: apply it to physics and go into the physics field, or to go into math education and become a math teacher, and hopefully move onto professor".
When asked about his Community Service involvement, his asnwer was:
"During COVID times, I volunteered at the Leesburg Animal shelter during the fall time to assist in the annual pumpkin patch that they held every year. I helped run stations for the kids, directed traffic out of the park, and ran the snack window. Seeing all the parents taking their kids to the park really brought back memories from when I went there when I was little, and I was glad to be given the opportunity to help these kids experience the full joy of the park, even during the COVID era".
The "BURG" Family Reunion Club wishes Jason the best of luck on his college career.
